Art & Creative Technology
The other side of what I am.
Visual arts, electronic arts, generative media, animation and interactive installations. This is where the design sensibility comes from.
Generative
Interactive sketches.
Canvas studies that respond to the pointer — the same motion language behind product and art work. System cards with sketch layers, alone or over media.
Background
The art background is where most of my decisions come from, including the ones I make in code.
Art and design studies
Studied visual arts and electronic arts at university for years, plus graphic design. I never finished any of those programs, but spent over a decade between them, which is where I learned about composition, color, hierarchy, materials and how images and sounds carry meaning.
How I got into software
In 2014 I started working in software, almost by accident: a small agency needed someone who could design and code a landing page, and I happened to be able to do both. From there I kept going, and software became the place where I apply most of what I learned in art school.
What I do today
Today I work as a product designer, a frontend engineer, or both at once, depending on the team. The two sides are not separate practices for me, they share the same way of looking at problems.
Building products involves translation between engineering and design, and I speak both languages.
